With her signature clean, modern aesthetic and pared down sensuality which pervades her work, New York City and Southampton based designer, Judy White, enjoys a career spanning many disciplines in home accessories, tabletop, textiles, bed and bath, and interior design. Having studied fine arts, art history, and trained as an industrial designer, she understands all aspects of design and manufacturing, allowing her to seamlessly transform art into commerce creating iconic modern classics. The passion to create well -designed products and interiors for today's lifestyle is driven by the influence from her work experience as a product designer in Japan, and inspired by the lasting beauty of everyday objects observed from early work at the Newark Museum.
Judy began her career working at Water Studio in Tokyo, which taught her about refining objects to their essence and the economy of restraint. Coming back to the US, Judy went on as the creative force to design Calvin Klein 's inaugural modern, luxury dinnerware and giftware collections. During her 10 year tenure, the Calvin Klein Tabletop line with its seductively reductive pieces evolved into one of the most readily recognized in the market. Drawing from styles of Asian dining, and western sportswear, she pioneered a mix and match concept within the Calvin Klein Tabletop line to create a modern approach. Later she was tapped to head design for the new proprietary luxury bedding and bath line, Hotel Collection, for Bloomingdales and Macys. She injected a sophisticated, modern attitude to the product range, created a top tier luxury line manufactured in Italy, and developed a basics category. Hotel Collection became one of their most successful businesses.
Judy White Studio designs an exclusive capsule bedding collection for Design Within Reach. Inspired by the Case Study Houses, using colors, textures, pattern, and finishes interpreted from modern building materials, for a "building blocks for your bed" concept.
In addition, Judy works on projects to design the interiors of NYC apartments, and homes in the Hamptons. Her trained eye, sensibility, knowledge of finishes, furnishings, ability to custom design for the site, and practical solutions extend into the realm of interior design.
Her work has received extensive recognition including awards in Metropolitan Home magazine's "Design 100", Architectural Digest's "The Great Design Issue", HFN's "Artisans of Style Fashion 50", and published in The New York Times, Interior Design, Dwell., Wallpaper, New York Magazine, and Elle Décor. |
